5 Signs You Should Schedule Air Conditioning Installation

Your air conditioner will start to give you small clues that it needs to be replaced. Here are five of the most typical ones.

  1. You regularly need repairs. As your air conditioner gets older, it loses energy efficiency and more prone to malfunctions. If we’re frequently at your house working on your system, you might need a new air conditioner.
  2. Repairs are greater than half the cost of a new air conditioner. Repairs swiftly add up. When they exceed more than half the cost of a new air conditioner, it’s time to replace yours.
  3. Your air conditioner is past 15 years old. Annually maintaining your cooling system could potentially increase its life span to 20 years. However, it’s wise to start planning for replacement close to the 15-year mark so it’s not a shock.
  4. Your air conditioner has R22 refrigerant. If your air conditioner was purchased prior to 2010, it likely has CFC R22. This refrigerant isn’t being made anymore as a result of its negative effects on the ozone layer. As R22 has been discontinued, repairing a refrigerant leak would be very expensive.
  5. You want to reduce your electrical bills. Purchasing an ENERGY STAR® air conditioner and using it with digital/programmable smart thermostat is a smart approach to spend less on energy bills. Even if you’re replacing an air conditioner that’s just 10 years old, the Department of Energy says a more efficient one could save you 20–40% on energy expenses.

Common Problems with Air Conditioning Systems

These are some of the most common issues with AC systems. You might be able to fix some of these maintenance items on your own rather than paying for an air conditioner repair. However, you should contact D & D Heating & Air if your air conditioner is leaking refrigerant or making odd noises.

  • Air conditioner won’t turn on. Make sure the thermostat is correctly set before taking a look at the breaker box for a tripped breaker. If the breaker is tripped, it may not require a repair call.
  • Air isn’t cold. Verify thermostat settings are on the proper temperature and that your thermostat has power. Then replace the air filter, if you haven’t done this in the past few months. A fresh air filter can increase efficiency and indoor air quality. Make sure the outdoor unit isn’t obstructed by debris such as (cottonwood, shrubs, etc. and that it isn’t leaking refrigerant. If you find a refrigerant leak, contact D & D at 720-218-9269 for service. If your air conditioner was installed prior to 2010, it possibly runs on R-22 which is a CFC (chlorofluorocarbon). This refrigerant is no longer being produced because of its damaging effects on the ozone layer. Because only limited, recycled quantities are available, fixing an R-22 refrigerant leak can be pricey. We often advise air conditioning installation in this experience.
  • Uneven cooling. Uneven cooling often doesn’t require an ac repair call, and instead might require unique solutions. Fluctuating temperatures or humidity that’s too high are often caused by leaky ducts, not enough insulation or blocked registers. If none of those things are creating the problem, consider adding blackout curtains on south-facing windows. We can also install a zoning system to regulate temperatures in distinct rooms. As a different possibility, a mini-split heat pump with variable refrigerant flow can fix heating and cooling problems in rooms that appear uncomfortable.

  • Water dripping from air conditioning unit. Inspect the condensate line for clogs. This is the PVC pipe exiting the air conditioner. Leaking refrigerant can also cause ice to collect on the coils and drip water. AC service will be usually required to fully repair your ac system if it is encapsulated in ice then this situation should be treated as an emergency ac repair.
  • Air conditioner is making strange noises. Screeching, clanging, banging or clicking sounds suggest potentially severe problems. If you’re noticing weird air conditioner noises, switch it off and call the experts at D&D Heating & Air Conditioning for a professional ac repair at 720-218-9269
